Joris Voorn

Joris Voorn (25 February 1977, Moergestel) is a Dutch DJ who currently resides in Amsterdam. Amongst being a renowned DJ, Joris is a graduate in architecture. Joris is the co-owner of the Amsterdam based labels Rejected (with Edwin Oosterwal) & Green. He plays his own house-style which is considered close to Detroit Techno.

Like many famed musicians, Voorn had a strong affiliation with music at a young age when he learned how to play the guitar and the violin (His Father was a composer of Music), when he grew up in the City of Schiedam. However, once the radio opened his mind to newer influences Voorn became hooked on Techno. During his education, he entered and won a DJ competition in Enschede which kick-started Joris' musical career. As of 1997, Joris is regularly booked for gigs, and has a residency at the ATAK. However his first production was not until 2002, when he released his Muted Trax EP. This release, as well as support from Carl Craig, Derrick May and Laurent Garnier made him decide to (temporarily) give up the world of architecture and focus on his DJing career. In 2003, His Lost Memories EP becomes another hit and affirms his talent. In the same year Joris is crowned 'Talent of the Year' at the Dutch DJ Awards.

2009/2010

2009 was the year in which Joris Voorn's popularity exploded. He released the Balance014 compilation which was unique in its kind. It managed to mix approximately 100 songs into a double CD, morphing them into a collective mix. Only Richie Hawtin had managed to create such a challenging feed successfully in the past in his DE9 series. Joris also released the Dusty House Room EP's which were a tremendous commercial success. His Remix of Nalin & Kane's 'Beachball' was one of the greater productions heard at the Miami Winter Music Conference and his 'Sweep the Floor' was the Ibiza anthem of 2009. Joris Voorn was crowned Best Breakthrough at the annual Ibiza DJ Awards and climbed from 35th to 10th place in the Resident Advisor's DJ top 100. 2009 included performances at Awakenings Festival, Space Ibiza, Amnesia, Sensation as well as appearing in Pete Tong's Essential Mix. He is currently working on a new album to be released in 2012.

Deadmau5

Joel Thomas Zimmerman
(born January 5, 1981), better known by his stage name deadmau5 (pronounced "dead mouse"), is a Canadian progressive, electro, and house producer based in Toronto. His tracks have been included in compilation albums such as In Search of Sunrise 6: Ibiza, MixMag's Tech-Trance-Electro-Madness (mixed by deadmau5 himself), and on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radio show. His debut album, Get Scraped, was released in 2006, followed by others in the next few years.

As well as his own solo releases, deadmau5 has worked alongside other DJs and producers, such as Kaskade, MC Flipside, Rob Swire of Pendulum, Skrillex, and Steve Duda under the BSOD alias. He is known for often performing in a titular costume head, which resembles a mouse head, that he originally created while learning to use a 3D program.

Career

Zimmerman was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario Zimmerman's career began during the 1990s, his sound influenced greatly by the chiptune movement. In 2005, he released Project 56, a compilation of fifty-six demos. Among this EP is "Just Before 8bit", which was later expanded upon in Get Scraped. Get Scraped, released in 2006, features a variety of genres, including IDM, Ambient/Downtempo, Noise Pop and Trip Hop. Soon after, Zimmerman began his own record label, mau5trap, which, along with Ultra Records and Ministry of Sound, released the 2008 album Random Album Title. Random Album Title saw the collaboration of Deadmau5 and San-Francisco producer Kaskade with I Remember. His first mixed album, Random Album Title, was released electronically in September 2008 via Ultra Records in the United States and Ministry of Sound in the United Kingdom and Europe. Physical copies of the album were released in November 2008.

In the United States, deadmau5's collaboration with Kaskade, "Move for Me," reached No.1 on Billboard magazine's Hot Dance Airplay chart in its September 6, 2008 issue.

Since then, deadmau5 has seen three of his tracks, all collaborations ("Move for Me" and "I Remember" with Kaskade; "Ghosts N Stuff" with Rob Swire) reach number-one on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart, making him the only Canadian on that chart to achieve that status (he is also the fourth Canadian to top that chart, following Deborah Cox, Nelly Furtado, and Dragonette, with one a piece).

In 2009, he was the best-selling artist on Beatport with more than 30,000 digital downloads with his singles "Not Exactly," "Faxing Berlin," and "Ghosts N Stuff."

Information on his album For Lack of a Better Name was posted on his official MySpace page.
“On September 22, 2009 (U.S only, rest-of-world release October 5) deadmau5 launches his brand new mix album, the Grammy-nominated, Juno Award-winning electronic music sensation who has racked up more than 5,000,000 hits on MySpace will unleash his second album for ULTRA Records – titled 'For Lack of a Better Name' – and then set off on a massive fall tour throughout North America.

In the fall of 2009, deadmau5's performances were recorded and made available for sale immediately following the concert on USB wristband flash drives.
On For Lack of a Better Name, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2008 debut Random Album Title, deadmau5 takes a different turn by incorporating various styles of music into multi-blocks of songs. The album will include "Ghosts N Stuff", featuring Pendulum's Rob Swire”.

MTV named deadmau5 as the house DJ for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and MTV PUSH artist of the week on August 16, 2010. He expressed gratitude towards Lady Gaga and David Guetta for bringing dance into the pop music scene and paving the way for the him to the mainstream. At the awards, deadmau5 performed with Jason Derulo and Travie McCoy. His song "Ghosts N Stuff" had been featured on the soundtrack for the MTV reality series Jersey Shore earlier.

His third studio album, titled 4x4=12, was released on December 6, 2010 in the United Kingdom and December 7, 2010 in the United States. The singles "Some Chords," "Animal Rights," and "Sofi Needs a Ladder" have been released and will feature on the album. "Some Chords" was featured on an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation where Deadmau5 guest starred, and an instrumental version of "Sofi Needs a Ladder" was featured in the film The Hangover Part II.

A short while after he released 4x4=12, he stated that he would be releasing a new album some time in 2011 and would not release any material as singles.

deadmau5 is a playable avatar in DJ Hero 2, a video game released in October 2010. Additionally, one of the initially revealed tracks is a mashup between deadmau5's "Ghosts N Stuff" with Lady Gaga's "Just Dance."

He also had a radio station dedicated to him in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) portable gaming consoles, as well as the iPhone.
Live performances

deadmau5 out of costume

deadmau5 headlined the Dance Arena on July 10, 2009, at the Oxegen Festival in Ireland. He also headlined LovEvolution in San Francisco, California on October 3. He played at Belsonic in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 28, at the Leeds, Reading, and Creamfields Festivals on August 29 and 30 in the Lock Up/Dance Tent/Mixmag stage, drawing a large crowd at each of the events. He has performed on BBC Radio 1 multiple times, which include an Essential Mix set on August 19, 2008, and a shared set with Pete Tong live at the Warehouse Project in Manchester on October 11, 2008. He played back to back shows that were broadcast via BBC Radio1 live from Ibiza on August 31 and September 1, 2009. deadmau5 was offered and accepted to play another set live on New Year's 2010 along with Justice, Eric Prydz, and Plump DJs.

deadmau5 performed at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia on February 19, 2010, during the live medal presentations in men’s luge doubles and biathlon (women’s 15-km individual and men’s 20-km individual). His track "Moar Ghosts N Stuff" was aired on national TV throughout the United States when it was played over loudspeakers during Hannah Kearney's gold-medal run in women's moguls. deadmau5 also performed live at the Electric Daisy Carnival's Kinetic Fields section in Exposition Park, Los Angeles on June 25, 2010.

During Winter 2010, deadmau5 toured the United Kingdom and was supported by BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, Magnetic Man, Calvin Harris, Stanton Warriors and Kim Fai. He also performed at the Scottish festival T in the Park 2011.
Personal life

Up until September 2011 he lived with American model and the Playboy Playmate of the Month for October 2009 Lindsey Gayle Evans. They met at the VMA awards. Their breakup was made public through his Facebook account.
Name origin

The name "deadmau5" originated when Zimmerman found a dead mouse in his computer while he was replacing his video card. He discussed this with chat room users and became known as "that dead mouse guy." His nickname "Dead Mouse" was too long for the IRC character limit, and was then shortened to deadmau5.
Health

On July 30, 2010 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., deadmau5 collapsed on stage, suffering from exhaustion and vomiting. deadmau5's set was cut short as he was rushed to a hospital, and his collapse also led to the cancellation of the nine shows following the event.
Controversies
Parodies

In December 2007, Marcus Schossow, Maor Levi and Dj Eco created a project named Deadrat6 as a joke on deadmau5, claiming his tracks sound alike. A similar faux project was also created under the name of Sinterklaa5.
Comment about DJs

Zimmerman doesn't like to be referred to as a DJ. In an October 2008 interview with the Irish Daily Star, deadmau5 was quoted as follows:
“It puts me to fucking sleep, to be quite honest; I don’t really see the technical merit in playing two songs at the same speed together and it bores me to fucking tears and hopefully, with all due respect to the DJ type that will fucking go the way of the dinosaur, I'd like them to dis-a-fucking-ppear! It's so middle man, they’re like fucking lawyers! You need them, but they’re fucking cunts. God bless them, they’re my number one customer right, so I’m not gonna go diss every fucking DJ. But to say you become this massive, "up on a podium" performer by playing other peoples productions, at the same speed as someone else's productions and fading between the two of them, I don’t get it...”

Zimmerman apologized for this comment on November 4, 2008. He explained that the interview was bad, and that it did not express his opinion about DJs correctly:
"Let me start by admitting…. I did not grow up in the EDM scene. I don't consider my career to be about “being a DJ”. I don't have “DJ roots”. I never had any intention of becoming a DJ, and my conception of “DJ’s” in general from this standpoint has always been being forced into some nightclub when I would have rather stayed home, and watch some dude mash the “play / stop” button and occasionally move a pitch slider. Love it or hate it... that’s just been my conception of the traditional “DJ”. Mind you, I'm not a total fucking idiot, and I recognize talent when I see it... and there are many talented DJ’s out there for sure. In my eyes, those would be the individuals who utilize technology to deliver the music in ways that are both skillful and innovate, more-so than my vision of the “play/stop/pitch” DJ. To me, the club is about “the party”; the people make the night; the DJ obviously needs to use that to his advantage, it’s give and take."
DirtyCircuit

In 2008, an artist called DirtyCircuit claimed to have been threatened with legal action after using a sample called "LP_Faxing Berlin C_128bpm" that came bundled with FL Studio, and to which deadmau5 claimed copyright. The sample was a direct clip of a full bar of the song. Deadmau5 provided a "Demo Track" which came bundled with FL Studio, along with several loop samples. The case caused a slight discomfort among the users of FL Studio, and some have pointed out potential inconsistencies in the EULA of the software.

Pryda

Eric Sheridan Prydz
(born July 19, 1976) is a Swedish DJ and producer based in London, United Kingdom. The pronunciation of his surname is often questioned; it is pronounced "prids", but when under his alias, Pryda, it is pronounced "pride-ah". In October 2011, DJ Magazine announced the results of their annual Top 100 DJ Poll, where Prydz placed at #46 .

Personal life
Until recently, Prydz had only played shows in and around Europe as he has a fear of flying. In December 2008, Prydz was forced to cancel several dates in Australia and New Zealand after panic attacks prevented him from boarding the outbound flight.

On Armin van Buuren's radio show "A State of Trance" in February 2011, it was announced that Prydz recently became a father.

EPIC Event

His debut live show called "EPIC / Eric Prydz in Concert" was held on April 2, 2011 at the O2 Brixton Academy in London where he played most of his own production, as well as unfinished and upcoming tracks. It's already announced that his second live "EPIC" performance will take place at Alexandra Palace on 26th November.

Albums

Since 2005, Prydz has been working on an artist album.[4] The first version of the album was originally planned for release in 2007, but after complications with the record label, he decided to cancel the release. In late 2009, Prydz told followers on his Facebook and Twitter accounts that his album had been completed under the Pryda recordings and was slated for a 2011 release.

REBOOT

 Frank Heinrich

Reboot, aka Frank Heinrich, the 30-year-old Frankfurt musician, started releasing tracks for Combi.int and i220 with his former partner Delle in the duo Delle-Heinrich. Launched only a year ago, Frank's Reboot project is so far responsible for the well-received "Charlotte" for Frankfurt's Below label as well as recent remixes for Greek duo Lemos & Kreon, on Be-Chosen and Below. His productions are dedicated to grooves both darkly emphatic and dazzlingly polyrhythmic. Where "Charlotte" was suffused with sweetness and light and tentative time-keeping, Reboot's debut EP for Cadenza Records was released in January 2008 and is considerably darker. A Remix work for Wareika on Connaisseur Recordings followed in February. Up next will be Remixes for Matthias Tanzmann , Guy Gerber and many others. The next Reboot EP is to be expected in summer 2008. Besides that, he started two new Projects. “Sweet Spot” is a project with Vera, the well known Frankfurt Djane. “Lakeof” is a project with DJ Meat, the owner of the Freebase Recordshop. First EP`s and remix works will be released in summer on labels like Cadenza Records or Klang Recordings.

Frank's most convincing arguments are his stunning live performances and his DJ-sets. His live sets can be described as sexy and pumping. His DJ sets incorporate the whole spectrum from deep minimal sounds to driving electronic-tech vibes and oldshool House. For the last years Frank has been a regular feature on the electronic dance music scene in Europe playing at clubs such as Cocoon Club, Panoramabar, Club 11, Sueno, Spartacus and many more. Look and see him playing in a venue near you! … All Systems down!

Paul Kalkbrenner

History

As of 2010, Paul Kalkbrenner has tallied up more than 15 years of experience as a producer and live act. The early 90s after the Berlin Wall fell were formative years for Paul, and after spending many long and sleepless nights on the dancefloors of E-Werk, Planet and Whale, the dream was born to make music himself. A job as TV editor got him through the mid-90s and financed his first music gear. By this point Paul had already decided that he did not want to be a typical DJ playing other people's records, but rather to play only his own music, live in a club setting. His first tracks as Paul Kalkbrenner were released in 1999 on Berlin-based BPitch Control (the newly founded label from Ellen Allien) as the Friedrichshain EP, titled after his home district in the city's east. A series of further singles and two full-lengths (Superimpose and Time) followed, plus continuous live performances.

Together with Paul Kalkbrenner, BPitch Control gained a strong momentum. Paul's third album Self (2004) would mark the beginning of a new era. His melodic sound, with its affinity for grand emotional gestures, obeyed the logic of the dancefloor, but Self introduced a narrative aesthetic, serving as a soundtrack to a film that did not exist (at least, not yet). "Gebrünn Gebrünn", released one year later, became a crossover hit.

In early 2006, German director Hannes Stöhr, an avid fan of Self, decided to get in contact with Kalkbrenner. His idea was to produce a film about a Berlin techno musician during the new millennium, and Paul would compose the soundtrack. The two met, traded ideas and experiences, and soon after began working on the screenplay's first draft. In the course of their exchange, Hannes had the realization that Paul should not just contribute the music, but that he would be the perfect choice as the film's star. Without hesitation, Paul accepted the offer. They decided to title the film Berlin Calling.[3][4]

For the soundtrack's production, Paul and his friend (and Bpitch colleague) Sascha Funke spent half a year in Aix-En-Provence in southern France. One song already had a title: "Sky and Sand" with vocals by brother Fritz Kalkbrenner. Upon Paul's return to Berlin in 2007, the filming began, and the finished work was brought to German theaters in October 2008. Berlin Calling and Paul's debut acting performance received positive reviews, and the film, thanks to its authentic depiction of the Berlin club scene and drug culture, became a cult classic.

The soundtrack and especially the single "Sky and Sand" broke many sales records. That track in particular went gold in Belgium where it remained in the charts' Top Ten for weeks. The 2009 DVD release of the film brought Paul to a new, much larger audience around the world. By the end of the year, Paul separated with BPitch Control after a decade-long relationship to take the next steps of his career alone. In early 2010 Paul completed a twelve-city live concert tour throughout Europe (with over 50,000 tickets sold within just a few weeks), followed by many headlining appearances at summer festivals.

Kalkbrenner uses software-synthesizers, sequencer (Ableton Live) in combination with midi-controllers, hardware-synthesizers and -drummachines for his live shows.

On April 12, 2011, Kalkbrenner announced the album Icke Wieder, scheduled to be released on June 3, 2011 via his own new label Paul Kalkbrenner Musik.[5] About the album, he stated: "There won't be any singing on the album, no music of tomorrow either, it feels generally more like... well, old times".

KAROTTE BIOGRAPHY:

Here today, gone tomorrow. A phrase truly befitting the modern club scene. Because the dance hit of today can quickly become the long forgotten melody of yesterday.
The name of the artist of the moment is permanently blasted on the radio, shown TV and omnipresent in every musically related magazine, in other words, simply everywhere. One starts to wonder: Where does this guy come from? How come I haven`t heard of him before? And first and foremost: Does he even know how to spin a record? All justified inquests, because this so called breakthrough artist must have somewhat of a past, you might suppose. But these Johnny-come-lately frequently can`t differentiate a record from a pizza funghi and their DJ-sets are consequently not really an eye- or ear-opener. The aftereffect: The crowd is disappointed by the self-proclaimed rising star. Expectations and reality don`t correspond one bit.
Then again there are DJs that started playing records way before they set foot in a studio. Handicraftsmen that build their entire career on their unique ability to electrify an audience with their skills behind the turntables. This road is surely longer and harder, but at the same time guarantees a lifelong loyal fan base centered around you.
Peter Cornely aka Karotte, born 1969 in Saarbrücken, is a prime example for such a phenomenon. Over the last two decades the German entertainer has worked himself to the top. Not necessarily as a producer, but as a worldwide revered  DJ. Achieving this distinguished position by purely giving 100% each and every night at clubs all around the globe. His unparalleled blend of electronic music surely already separates him from the rest of the field, but his ability to motivate himself to go to the absolute limit all the time, exemplifies his standing as a truly outstanding DJ. His love for music can clearly be heard and seen, no other turntable-wizard lives his set the way Karotte does. His gigs are not just a better option for a wild night out in town, each set is special and an experience in itself. Residencies at numerous discos attest his one-of-a-kind status and value to the electronic scene. U60311 Frankfurt, Stammheim Kassel, Harry Klein Munich and nowadays Cocoon Club Frankfurt are just a few examples of this illustrious list of top notch hot spots. If you would ask one the regular guests of each and every nightery Mr.Cornely has graced throughout his career, which DJ honestly shaped the sound of club, the answer would probably always be the same: Karotte. His open approach to all electronic genres (Minimal, Tech/House, Electro, Breakbeat...) have made him unpredictable and extremely influential to many young musicians out there. But clubs are not the only place where the root vegetable of all DJs can be heard. The radio-show “Karottes Kitchen” on Sunshine Live is more than just your typical “guy playing records all night long” show. Peter invites other befriended colleagues on air and together they discuss

groundbreaking issues such as birds, cars and the latest local gossip. His charm and personality are what make the program special and entertaining, it is not just about the music but also about the people who stop by for a short or sometimes longer chit-chat.
Enough of the DJ Karotte, let us talk about the producer Karotte. Over the last few years the Cocoon resident has put the finishing touches on his recent tracks. The renowned artist Gregor Tresher is his latest studio partner. Together they have released “Tronic” and “Storytelling” on Great Stuff Records. Both numbers getting massive support from internationally acclaimed disc jockeys: James Zabiela, Toni Rios, Paul Woolford, Mason, Monika Kruse, Darren Emerson...are all huge fans of their latest output. Peter`s unequalled taste in music clearly reflects in his first Great Stuff 12inch. Eschewing from all contemporary trends and styles, Karottte manages to fill the void between Tech/House, Trance and Acid. But being the workaholic that he is, the long haired mix-master already has the next killer LP up his sleeve. Concurrently to the enormous Mayday this year (of course he is on the bill!), Mr.Cornely is about to unleash his new record. Later in the summer we can even expect a CD mix-series, which will reflect his temporary taste in music.
Here today, here tomorrow, a phrase which perfectly mirrors Karotte`s past, present and future. Event if Peter Cornely should land a number one hit in the dance charts, you would still have to admit that he is a better DJ than the rest of the pack. The prior expectations are surpassed and reality slowly sinks in: Damn, this guy is good
